The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) has scheduled an open house public hearing for the purpose of discussing proposed improvements at the intersections of IL 116 & IL 26, IL 116 & W. Spring Creek Road, and IL 116 & Spring Creek Road. All interested persons are invited to attend and participate. The meeting will present proposed operational and safety improvements at the three intersections listed above; and obtain public input on the planned installation of traffic signals at the IL 116 & Spring Creek Road and IL 116 & IL 26 intersections, widening at the Spring Creek Road intersection to better accommodate truck turning movements, and construction of a raised curb median at the W. Spring Creek Road intersection to eliminate left-turns onto IL 116. During the construction phase, Spring Creek Road is planned to be reduced to one eastbound lane of traffic with the westbound direction of traffic closed and detoured. The closure is anticipated to be in effect for up to 8 weeks and would be restricted to summer months when public schools are not in session. Project exhibits and preliminary plans will be available for viewing. In addition, IDOT staff members will be available to receive input, provide information, and answer questions. No formal presentation will be given.
The public hearing will provide an opportunity to provide comments about potential impacts to historic and cultural resources, in compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended and to assist in consultation with the Illinois State Historic Preservation Officer
The proposed improvements will require right-of-way acquisition from one property and will not displace any residences. Right-of-way acquisition information will be available as required by the Uniform Relocation Assistance and Real Property Acquisition Regulations for Federally-Assisted Programs, 49 CFR 24.
The public is encouraged to submit comments. Comments can be submitted at the meeting, mailed or e-mailed to the addresses listed below. Comments received by April 10, 2026 will become part of the public hearing record.
The location of the meeting is accessible to persons with disabilities. If special accommodations or assistance are needed, please contact the individual listed below by Thursday, March 19, 2026.
