Special Meeting with Legislators
February 23, 2026
Present: Dr. Mielke, Senator Jodi Habush-Sinykin, Representative Daniel Knodl, Representative Jim Piwowarczyk, Mike Neuwohner – Policy Director and Committee Clerk for Senator Kapenga
The meeting was called to order by President Schneider at 6:00 p.m.
Public notice of the meeting has been given in accordance with Wisconsin's Open Meetings Law contained in the Wisconsin Statutes, Subchapter V of Chapter 19.
Present: Schneider, Ziemer, Castillo, Van Aacken, Lodzinski, Streblow, Schaffner
Motion by Streblow, seconded by Ziemer, resolved to approve the agenda as presented. Voice vote. Motion carried.
Dr. Mielke reviewed the results of the community survey and highlighted several key efforts, including: the addition of a second school resource officer, the Emergency Officials Luncheon, the Adaptive Sports League, the Hamilton Cares webpage, and the Senior and Students Program. The meeting also included discussion on academic achievement, updates on the referendum projects, and special education funding.
The discussion covered key aspects of both the state and district budgets. Legislators also reviewed bills currently in assembly that could impact public education and policies.
School Board members have the opportunity to spotlight their recommended books. This is an
informational item. No action is necessary.
Motion by Streblow, seconded by Schaffner, resolved to Adjourn Open Meeting and Move to Closed Session Pursuant to Wisconsin State Statutes 19.85 (1)(c) for the Purpose of Evaluation of the Superintendent. Roll call vote: Yes-7; No-0. Motion carried. The meeting was adjourned at 7:22 p.m.
