NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING TO VOTE ON A PROPOSITION TO BE SUBMITTED TO THE VOTERS OF THE
SUFFERN CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT
ROCKLAND COUNTY, NEW YORK
TO BE HELD ON
TUESDAY, APRIL 21, 2026
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that a Special district meeting of the qualified voters of the Suffern Central School District, Rockland County, New York will be held at the place in the school election districts hereinafter set forth, on the 21st Day of April, 2026 at which date the polls will be kept open between the hours of 9:30 o’clock A.M. and 8:00 o’clock P.M., prevailing time, for the purpose of voting upon the following proposition, which shall appear on the ballot in the following form, to wit:
PROPOSITION
“Shall the Suffern Central School District, Town of Ramapo, County of Rockland, New York appropriate for year 2026 - 2027 and pay annually thereafter to the Sloatsburg Public Library, Sloatsburg, New York the additional sum of $19,475.00 and to the Suffern Free Library, Suffern, New York the additional sum of $68,577.00 for library services provided to residents of said School District, in accordance with contracts satisfactory to the Board of Education, which said sums shall be in addition to the amounts presently raised annually by the tax upon the taxable property of said School District for said Libraries?”
The total amount of support for the Sloatsburg Public Library would be $506,358.00 and for the Suffern Free Library $2,988,283.00 if the proposition is approved.
NOTICE IS HEREBY FURTHER GIVEN that pursuant to Section 2014 of the Education Law, registration of voters is required for said Special District Meeting, and no person shall be entitled to vote whose name does not appear upon the register of the School District. Persons who previously registered for any Annual or Special Meeting of said School District held on or after January 1, 2014, and persons otherwise qualified to vote, who are registered to vote pursuant to the applicable provisions of the Education Law, need not register again for this district meeting.
Registration of eligible voters shall take place on days when school is in session during the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. at the Office of the District Clerk located at the Administration Offices, 45 Mountain Avenue, Hillburn, New York 10931.
The Register of the School District so prepared will be filed in the office of the School District Clerk located at the Administration Offices, 45 Mountain Avenue, Hillburn, New York 10931, where the same will be open for inspection by any qualified voter of the District between the hours of 9:00 o’clock A.M. and 3:00 o’clock P.M., prevailing time, on each of the seven days prior to and the day set for said district meeting, except Saturday and Sunday.
NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that qualified voters may apply for absentee or early mail ballots pursuant to Education Law, Sections 2018-a and 2018-e and that such applications must be received by the District Clerk on or before April 14, 2026, 5:00pm if the ballot is to be mailed to a voter, or April 20, 2026, 5:00pm if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter.
NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that the place in the Election Districts where said district meeting will be held, including a description of the Election Districts, is as follows:
Sloatsburg Election District comprising former Union Free School District No. 1 of the Town of Suffern and Common School District No. 5 of the Towns of Haverstraw and Tuxedo at the Sloatsburg Public Library, 1 Liberty Rock Road, Sloatsburg, New York 10974-2207.
Combined Election District including Hillburn, R. P. Connor, Suffern Middle School and Cherry Lane Election Districts and comprising the former Union Free School District No. 15 and Common School District No. 2 of the Town of Ramapo and including the Village of Hillburn and the Hamlet of Suffern, and
Union Free School District No. 3 of the Town of Ramapo, and including in addition thereto, the area to the west of South Airmont Road and south of the Gov. Thomas E. Dewey Thruway, and
All of former Common School District No. 9 of the Town of Ramapo and so much of former Common School Districts No. 4 and No. 13 of the Town of Ramapo and lies north of the Gov. Thomas E. Dewey Thruway, and
Of that area of the District beginning at the intersection of the eastern boundary of the District and the dividing line between Rockland County, New York and Bergen County, New Jersey, running north to the Gov. Thomas E. Dewey Thruway, then west along said Thruway to South Airmont Road, then running south along South Airmont Road to the Rockland County-Bergen County border, continuing east along said border to the point of beginning, at the Suffern Free Library, 210 Lafayette Avenue, Suffern, New York 10901-4708.
