ORDINANCE NO. 881 AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND CHAPTER 410, UNIFORM TRAFFIC CODE OF THE CODIFIED ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF COLDWATER   WHEREAS, the City of Coldwater (the “City”) has authority pursuant to Public Act 121 of 1988, the Uniform Traffic Code, authorizes cities to adopt the uniform traffic code of the Michigan State Police by reference; and WHEREAS, the City adopted the Uniform Traffic Code (UTC) in 2003 and has periodically updated the same; and WHEREAS, the City Council desires to amend its ordinances, Chapter 410, to specify penalties for previously identified civil infractions; NOW THEREFORE, THE CITY OF COLDWATER HEREBY ORDAINS: Section 1. Section 410.99, Penalty, shall be added to read as follows: (a) The fine for parking violations identified in this Chapter shall be $25.00 and shall be paid within 60 days of issuance of the citation. Any person who fails to pay the fine within 60 days shall be responsible for a civil infraction. (b) The penalty for each civil infraction identified in this Chapter shall be $25.00. (c) Should a court find a person to be responsible in a civil infraction action brought for violation of this Chapter, the court may impose a civil fine of up to $100.00, but not less than $50.00, plus costs as the court may deem appropriate. Section 2. Effective Date. This Ordinance shall be effective 21 days after adoption and after publication as prescribed by law. Section 3. All ordinances, resolutions, or rules inconsistent with these provisions are hereby repealed. Should any section, clause, or phrase of this ordinance be declared invalid, the same shall not affect the validity of the ordinance as a whole or any other part.   The foregoing ordinance was duly adopted at a regular meeting of the Council of the City of Coldwater at which a quorum was present on March 9, 2026. /s/ Shauna Chávez, Clerk
