LEGAL NOTICE NOTICE OF BUDGET HEARING, BUDGET VOTE, AND ELECTION FOR THE HAMILTON CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT NOTICE IS HERBY GIVEN that the budget hearing of the residents of the Hamilton Central School District, Madison County, New York, qualified to vote in said school district, will be held in the Dave McKay Board of Education Room/LGI, on Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at 6:00 P.M. (EDT) for the transaction of such business as is authorized by Education Law. NOTICE IS ALSO GIVEN THAT the vote in the annual election to fill the vacancies on the Board of Education and upon the appropriation of the necessary funds to meet the estimated expenditures for the school year of 2026-27 will be taken by voting machine or paper ballot on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 at 12:00 Noon (EDT), in the Bus Garage at the Hamilton Central School on 47 West Kendrick Avenue, Hamilton, NY, and that the polls will be open between the hours of 12:00 Noon and 8:00 P.M. (EDT), on that date. NOTICE IS ALSO GIVEN that petitions nominating candidates for the office of member of the Board of Education must be filed in the office of the Clerk of the District no later than April 20, 2026 between the hours of 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M. Two vacancies on the Board of Education will be filled at the election. The term of the two board members will expire on June 30, 2026. The term of office is July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2029. Each petition must be directed to the Clerk of the District, shall be signed by at least thirty-two qualified voters of the District, shall state the residence of each signer, and shall state the name and residence of the candidate. Signature petitions may be picked up at the office of the District Clerk at Hamilton Central School between the hours of 7:30 A.M. and 3:30 P.M. on Monday through Friday. NOTICE IS ALSO GIVEN that at the annual meeting and election, the following propositions shall be presented to qualified voters: “Shall the Board of Education of the Hamilton Central School District be authorized to purchase and finance one (1) 71-passenger diesel school bus, including necessary furnishings, fixtures and equipment and all other costs incidental thereto, and expend a total sum not to exceed $200,000 which is estimated to be the total maximum cost thereof, and said amount, or so much thereof as may be necessary, shall be raised by the levy of a tax upon the taxable property of said School District and collected in annual installments as provided by Section 416 of the Education Law; and, in anticipation of such tax, obligations of said School District, in the principal amount not to exceed $200,000 shall be issued” “Shall the Hamilton Central School District be authorized to levy a tax in the amount of $218,073 and pay such monies to the Trustees of the Hamilton Public Library for the support and maintenance of the Library with such support continuing on an annual basis unless or until a different amount is authorized by the qualified voters of the school district?” NOTICE IS ALSO GIVEN that the manner of submitting propositions by anyone other than the Board of Education for a vote at the annual election is governed by a rule of the Board of Education adopted pursuant to Section 2035 of the Education Law. To require such submission a petition therefore must be signed by no fewer than twenty-five qualified voters of the District, and filed with the Board of Education no later than thirty (30) days before the annual election. The District reserves the right to alter the language of a proposition in order to ensure compliance and conformity with the law. NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that qualified voters of the District may obtain applications for an absentee ballot or an early voting ballot from the office of the Clerk of the District. Completed applications must be received by the Clerk of the District no later than 3:30 P.M. on May 18, 2026 and must be received no later than 3:30 P.M. on May 12, 2026 if the absentee ballot or an early voting ballot is to be mailed to the voter. Completed applications received after 3:30 P.M. on May 12, 2026 will require the voter to personally appear at the office of the Clerk of the District to receive an absentee ballot or an early voting ballot. A listing of all persons to whom an absentee ballot or an early voting ballot is issued will be available for inspection by any qualified voter in the office of the Clerk of the District between the hours of 7:30 A.M. and 3:30 P.M. during each of the five business days prior to the election. NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that military ballots may be applied for by qualified voters by requesting an application from the District Clerk at 315-824-6310 or jshantal@hamiltoncentral.org. Completed applications for military ballots must be received by the Clerk no later than 5:00 P.M. on April 24, 2026. In a request for a military ballot application or ballot, the military voter may indicate their preference for receiving the application or ballot by mail, facsimile transmission or electronic mail. NOTICE IS ALSO GIVEN that a detailed statement in writing of the amount of money which will be required for the school year 2026-27 for school purposes, specifying the several purposes and the amount for each, and the amount for each purpose estimated necessary for payments to Boards of Cooperative Education Services (BOCES), with no deduction of estimated state aid, may be obtained by any taxpayer within the District at the school district office of said District during the 14 days immediately preceding the Annual Meeting, except Saturday, Sunday, or a holiday at the Hamilton Central School between the hours of 7:30 A.M. and 3:30 P.M, and on the date of the election. In addition, a copy of the text of any resolution to be presented to the voters will also be available at the above time and place. NOTICE IS ALSO GIVEN that a vote will be taken on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at the aforementioned place and times upon the question of appropriation of the necessary funds to meet expenditures estimated by the Board of Education for the 2026-27 school year. AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that the qualified voters of the School District shall be entitled to vote at said annual vote and election. A qualified voter is one who is (1) a citizen of the United States of America, (2) eighteen years of age or older, and (3) resident within the School District for a period of thirty (30) days preceding the annual vote and election, and (4) not otherwise disqualified to vote by applicable law. The School District may require that all persons offering to vote at the budget vote and election provide one form of proof of residency pursuant to Education Law Section 2018-c. Such form may include a driver’s license, a non-driver’s identification card, a utility bill, or a voter registration card. Upon offer of proof of residency, the School District may also require that all persons offering to vote provide their signature, printed name and address. Jodi E.
