NANUET PUBLIC LIBRARY Nanuet, New York   NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING, ANNUAL MEETING, BUDGET VOTE AND ELECTION NANUET PUBLIC LIBRARY HAMLET OF NANUET, COUNTY OF ROCKLAND, NEW YORK   NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that a public hearing of the qualified voters of the Nanuet Union Free School District, Rockland County, New York, and the Nanuet Public Library, Rockland County, New York, will be held in the Nanuet Senior High School, 103 Church Street, Nanuet, NY, in said District, on May 5, 2026, at 7:30 PM prevailing time, for the presentation of the budget document.   AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that said vote and election will be held on May 19, 2026, between the hours of 7:00 AM and 9:00 PM, prevailing time, in the Nanuet Senior High School, 103 Church Street, Nanuet, NY, at which time the polls will be opened to vote by voting machine upon the following items:   1. To adopt the annual budget of the Nanuet Public Library for the fiscal year 2026-2027, and to authorize the requisite portion thereof to be raised by taxation on the taxable property of the District.   2. To elect two (2) members to the Board of Trustees of the Nanuet Public Library; One seat is for a five (5) year term commencing July 1, 2026 and expiring on June 30, 2031. The second seat is for a three (3) year term commencing July 1, 2026 and expiring on June 30, 2029.   AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that a copy of the statement of the amount of money which will be required to fund the Nanuet Public Library’s budget for the 2026-2027 fiscal year, exclusive of public monies, may be obtained by any resident of the District, during business hours beginning April 28, 2026, except Saturday, Sunday or Holidays, at the Nanuet Public Library, 149 Church Street, Nanuet, NY 10954.   AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that petitions nominating candidates for the Nanuet Public Library’s Board of Trustees shall be filed with the Clerk shall be filed with the Clerk of said School District at her office in the Administration Building, 101 Church Street, Nanuet, NY, not later than April 20, 2026, between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Vacancies of the Board of Trustees of the Nanuet Public Library are not considered separate, specific offices; candidates run at-large. Nominating petitions shall not describe any specific vacancy upon the Board for which the candidate is nominated, must be directed to the Clerk of the District, must be signed by at least twenty-five (25) qualified voters of the District, must state the name and residence of each signer, and must state the name and residence of the candidate.   AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that applications for early mail ballots will be obtainable during school business hours from the District Clerk beginning April 2, 2026; completed applications must be received by the District Clerk no earlier than April 20, 2026 and at least seven (7) days before the election if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter, or the day before the election, if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter or the voter’s authorized agent at the District Clerk’s office. Early mail ballots must be received by the District Clerk no later than 5:00 PM, prevailing time on May 19, 2026.   AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that applications for absentee ballots will be obtainable during school business hours from the District Clerk beginning April 2, 2026; completed applications must be received by the District Clerk no earlier than April 20, 2026 and at least seven (7) days before the election if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter, or the day before the election, if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter or the voter’s authorized agent at the District Clerk’s office. Absentee ballots must be received by the District Clerk no later than 5:00 PM, prevailing time on May 19, 2026.   A list of persons to whom early mail ballots and absentee ballots are issued will be available for inspection to qualified voters of the District in the office of the District Clerk during regular office hours until the day of the vote. Any qualified voter present in the polling place may object to the voting of the ballot upon appropriate grounds for making his/her challenge and the reasons therefor known to the Inspector of Election before the close of the polls.   AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that personal registration of voters is required pursuant to Section 2014 of the Education Law. Voter eligibility include: being 18 years of age or older by May 19, 2026; being a U.S. citizen; residence in the School District for 30 days immediately preceding the vote and being registered to vote. If a voter has heretofore registered to vote with the School District and has voted at an annual or special school district meeting within the last four calendar years, s/he is eligible to vote at this election and vote. If an eligible voter is currently registered to vote with the Rockland County Board of Elections, s/he is also eligible to vote in this election and vote. All other persons who wish to vote must register with the Board of Registration in the Administrative Offices of the Nanuet Union Free School District, 101 Church Street, Nanuet, New York, between 9:00 A.M. and 4:00 P.M on or before May 14, 2026. Please call (845) 627-9202 for an appointment.   AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Register of voters so prepared shall be filed in the Office of the District Clerk located at the Administrative Offices of the Nanuet Union Free School District, 101 Church Street, Nanuet, New York, where the same shall be open for inspection by any qualified voter of the District between the hours of 9:00 A.M. and 4:00 P.M., prevailing time, on the five days prior to the Election and Vote, except Sunday, and on Saturday, May 16, 2026 by appointment. Said Register will be open for inspection at the polling place on the date of the Election and Vote.   AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that military voters who are not currently registered may apply to register as a qualified voter of the Nanuet School District by requesting a military registration form from the District Clerk. A military voter may indicate their preference for receiving the registration application by mail, facsimile or e-mail. Completed military voter registration forms must be received in the office of the District Clerk not later than 5:00 PM, prevailing time on April 23, 2026.   AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that military voters who are qualified voters of the Nanuet School District may apply for a military ballot by requesting a military ballot application from the District Clerk. A military voter may indicate their preference for receiving the application by mail, facsimile or e-mail. Completed military ballot applications must be returned in person or by mail to the Office of the District Clerk, at 101 Church Street, Nanuet, New York, not later than 5:00 PM on April 23, 2026. A military voter may indicate their preference for receiving the military ballot application by mail, facsimile or e-mail.   AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that military ballots shall be mailed or otherwise distributed by the appropriate school board of education in accordance with the military voter’s preferred method of transmission, as soon as practicable, but not later than April 24, 2026. Military ballots must be (1) received by mail by the District Clerk before the close of the polls on election day and showing a cancellation mark of the U.S. postal service or a foreign country’s postal service, or showing a dated endorsement of receipt by another agency of the U.S. government; or (2) received by 5:00 PM on election day and signed and dated by the military voter and one witness thereto, with a date which is ascertained to be not later than the day before the election.   AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that pursuant to a rule adopted by the Board of Education in accordance with Sections 2035 and 2008 of the Education Law, any referenda or propositions to amend the budget, or otherwise to be submitted for voting at said election, must be filed with the Board of Education at the Administration Building, 101 Church Street, Nanuet, NY, on or before April 20, 2026, at 5:00 PM prevailing time, must be typed or printed in the English language, must be directed to the Clerk of the School District, must be signed by at least thirty-one (31) qualified voters of the District, and must state the name and residence of each signer.
