NOTICE OF BUDGET HEARING, SPECIAL MEETING AND BUDGET VOTE
PEARL RIVER PUBLIC LIBRARY TOWN OF ORANGETOWN, ROCKLAND COUNTY, NEW YORK
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that a public hearing for the purpose of discussion of the expenditure of funds and the budgeting thereof by the Pearl River Public Library, Town of Orangetown, Rockland County, New York for the ensuing year 2026-2027 shall be held at the Pearl River Public Library, 75 E. Central Avenue, Pearl River, New York on Tuesday, May 26, 2026 at 7:15pm prevailing time.
NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that a special meeting of the qualified voters of the Pearl River Union Free School District, Rockland County, New York, will be held on Tuesday, June 2, 2026 at the Pearl River Public Library, 75 E. Central Avenue, Pearl River, New York between the hours of 9:30am and 9:00pm prevailing time, when the polls will be open for the purpose of voting, by paper ballot: A. To adopt the annual budget of the Pearl River Public Library for the fiscal year 2026-2027, and to authorize the requisite portion thereof to be raised by taxation on the taxable property of the district.
NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that a copy of the statement of the amount of money which will be required for Library purposes during the 2026-2027 fiscal year (the Budget) may be obtained by any resident of the District beginning May 19, 2026, at the Pearl River Public Library during regular library hours.
NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that personal registration of voters is required pursuant to Section 2014 of the Education Law. Voter eligibilities include: being 18 years of age by June 2, 2026; being a U.S. citizen; residence in the School District for 30 days immediately prior to the Special Meeting and being registered to vote.
If a voter has heretofore registered to vote with the School District and has voted at an annual or special school district meeting within the last four calendar years, she/he is eligible to vote at this election. If an eligible voter is currently registered to vote with the Rockland County Board of Elections, she/he is also eligible to vote in the election. All other persons who wish to vote must register with the Board of Registration.
NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that the Register of voters so prepared shall be filed in the Office of the Clerk to the Board of Trustees located at the Pearl River Public Library, 75 E. Central Avenue, Pearl River, New York, and the same shall be open for inspection by any qualified voter of the District at the Pearl River Public Library, 75 E. Central Avenue, Pearl River, New York on the five (5) days prior to the Special Meeting, excluding Sunday, during the hours the library is open, and at the polling place on the date of the Special Meeting.
NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that applications for absentee ballots may be obtained at the Pearl River Public Library 75 E. Central Avenue, Pearl River, New York, at least ten (10) days prior to the election and vote during the hours the library is open, if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter; or the day before the election and vote during the hours the library is open, if the ballot will be picked up personally by the voter. Absentee ballots must be received by the Clerk to the Library Board of Trustees by no later than 5:00pm, prevailing time, on June 2, 2026.
NOTICE IS FURTHER GIVEN that a list of all persons to whom absentee ballots shall have been issued will be available for inspection to qualified voters of the District in the said Office of the Clerk to the Board of Trustees during regular office hours, until the day of the Election and Vote, and that such list will also be available at the polling place on the day of the Election and Vote, June 2, 2026. Any qualified voter in the polling place may object to the voting on the ballot upon appropriate grounds for making her/his challenge and the reason therefore known to the Inspector of Election before the close of polls.
