PUBLIC BUDGET HEARING AND ELECTION/
BUDGET VOTE
NOTICE is hereby given that pursuant to Education Law, a Public Hearing will be held on Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at 4:00 PM, at the Greenwood Lake Middle School Cafetorium, for the residents of the Greenwood Lake Union Free School District, Town of Warwick, Greenwood Lake, New York. Said Hearing will be for the purpose of pre-senting the proposed 2026-2027 School District Budget.
FURTHER NOTICE is hereby given that the Annual Election and Vote of the residents of the Greenwood Lake Union Free School District, Town of Warwick, Greenwood Lake, New York, qualified to vote at the Annual Meeting in said District, will be held at the Greenwood Lake Elementary School Gymnasium on Tuesday, May 19, 2026. Polling hours will be 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM.
Proposition I – The Budget: Shall the Greenwood Lake Union Free School District Budget for 2026-2027 in the amount of $32,746,080 be approved?
The Proposed Budget will be available for inspection in the Principal’s Office of each School Building and at the District Office between the hours of 8:00 AM and 3:30 PM, fourteen (14) days prior to the vote on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, except Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. The proposed Budget will also be available at each free association and public library in the District and on the District website. The Property Tax Exemption Report prepared in accordance with Section 495 of the Real Property Tax Law will be annexed to any tentative/preliminary budget as well as the final adopted budget of which it will form a part; and shall be posted on District bulletin board(s) maintained for public notices, as well as on the District’s website.
School Board Election:
Two (2) seats for three (3) year terms, July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2029, presently held by Ian Mahony and Aaron Nowak are expiring.
Voting will be by voting machines. Only registered voters will be eligible to vote. Any resident is eligible to vote in this school election if they registered to vote in a town, county, state or national election, as well as any resident who is registered with the School District and has voted in a school election in the past four (4) calendar years.
The District maintains continuous registration. If you are not registered with either the County or the School District, you may register at the Elementary or Middle School Offices, Monday through Friday, from 8 AM to 3:30 PM, until May 5, 2026 or you may register with the County Board of Elections.
The Register of Voters, including the names of military voters who submit valid military voter registrations, will be available for inspection at the Middle School located at 1247 Lakes Road, on weekdays during business hours and from 8:00 AM and 3:30 PM on each of the five (5) days prior to the vote, and Saturday from 8:00 AM – 10:00 AM excluding Sunday and holidays.
Pursuant to Section 2018-a and Section 2018-e of Education Law, applications for absentee ballots and applications for early mail ballots may be obtained at the Office of the Clerk. Such absentee ballot applications and early mail ballot applications must be received by the District Clerk no more than thirty (30) and at least seven (7) days before the vote if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter, or the day before the vote if the ballot is to be picked up personally by the voter or the voter’s designated agent set forth in the application, at the District Office. Absentee ballots and early mail ballots must be received in the Office of the Clerk not later than 5:00 PM on the day of the vote, May 19, 2026.
A list of all persons to whom absentee ballots have been issued, a list of all person to whom early mail ballots have been issued, and a list of military voters to whom military ballots have been issued will be available for inspection to qualified voters of the District in the said office of the District Clerk during regular office hours, 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM, prevailing time, until the day of the election and vote. Any qualified voter may file a written challenge of the qualifications as a voter of any person on any such list, stating the reasons for the challenge.
Military Voters who are not currently registered to vote may apply to register as a qualified voter of the District and military voters who are registered to vote may obtain an application for a military ballot, for the Annual Meeting on May 19, 2026, by contacting the District Clerk at P. may indicate their preference for receiving the registration application and/or the application for a military ballot by mail, facsimile or email. The completed military ballot application must be received by the District Clerk no later than 5:00 PM on April 23, 2026. Military ballots will be mailed or otherwise distributed no later than 25 days before the election. Military ballots must be returned by mail or in person and received by the District Clerk no later than 5:00 PM on May 19, 2026.
