NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARINGS
The City of Staunton Planning Commission will hold the following Public Hearings at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 21, 2026. The hearings will be held in Rita S. Wilson Council Chambers located on the first floor of City Hall, 116 W Beverley Street.
• Public Hearing and Consideration of a Request by Almarode, LLC, to Vacate, Discontinue, and Abandon a Portion of Undeveloped Anthony Street Lying Between 107 National Avenue and 111 National Avenue.
• Public Hearing and Consideration of a Request by the Young Men’s Christian Association of Staunton Virginia to Rezone 802 N Coalter Street, Parcel Identification Number 560, from B-3, Planned Business District, to P-1, Professional District Conditional. The Applicant Has Submitted Proffers to Remove Two-Family and Multi-Family Uses from the Professional Zoning Regulations Specifically for this Property. The City of Staunton, Virginia, Comprehensive Plan 2018-2040, Land Use Development Guide, Future Land Use Map, Designates This Area as Low Density Residential with a Suggested Density Between 1 and 5 Units Per Acre.
• Public Hearing and Consideration of a Request by the Young Men’s Christian Association of Staunton Virginia to Amend Section 18.20.030, Uses Permitted on Review, of Chapter 18.20, R-1, Low Density Residential District, and Section 18.25.030, Uses Permitted on Review, of Chapter 18.25, R-2, Low Density Residential District, of Title 18, Zoning, of the Staunton City Code to Add “Private Day Nurseries and Kindergartens”. The Proposed Amendment Will Allow Child Daycare by Special Use Permit in the R-1 and R-2 Low Density Residential Districts.
• Public Hearing and Consideration of a Request by the Young Men’s Christian Association of Staunton Virginia for a Special Use Permit at 575 New Hope Road, Parcel Identification Number 10377, Under the Provisions of SCC 18.20.030. The Purpose of the Special Use Permit is Amend a Previously Approved Special Use and Allow Child Daycare on the Property. The Property is Zoned R-1, Low Density Residential District, and the Proposed Use is Permitted Only Through the Special Use Permit Process (Pending a Zoning Text Amendment). The City of Staunton, Virginia, Comprehensive Plan 2018-2040, Land Use Development Guide, Future Land Use Map, Designates this Area as Low Density Residential and Conservation/Recreation/Open Space.
The Planning Commission will conduct site visits at 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 19, 2026. Commission members and staff will meet at the Parks and Recreation Offices at Montgomery Hall Park.
