NOTICE OF A DESIGN PUBLIC HEARING
Project Description: CHATHAM – Intersection Improvements and Related Work At Main Street (Route 28) At Depot Road, Queen Anne Road and Crowell Road

A Design Public Hearing will be held to present the design for the proposed project in Chatham, MA.

WHEN: Wednesday, June 24th, 2026 @ 4:00pm.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this hearing is to provide the public with the opportunity to become fully acquainted with the proposed project. All views and comments submitted in response to the hearing will be reviewed and considered to the maximum extent possible.
PROPOSAL: The proposed project is intended to address the need for geometric, safety and multimodal improvements at the intersection. Proposed improvements include realignment of approach travel lanes and traffic islands at the intersection. The existing traffic signals also need upgrading to include pedestrian activation. There is also a lack of sidewalks on the South side of the intersection in addition to bike accommodating shoulders. Existing signage and pavement markings will be upgraded. New sidewalk extensions and provision of upgraded pavement markings including ADA compliant crosswalks and ramps will serve to improve multimodal accommodation. Bicycle accommodations consisting of a 10’ bicycle path” have been provided in accordance with applicable design guides.)
A secure right-of-way is necessary for this project. Acquisitions in fee and permanent or temporary easements may be required. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts is responsible for acquiring all needed rights in private or public lands. MassDOT’s policy concerning land acquisitions will be presented in the hearing.
