South Dallas County Landfill

The May meeting of the South Dallas County Landfill was called to order by Chair Shirley K. McAdon at 3:30 p.m. Also present: Mike Fountas and Michael Chadwick.
Hold Public Hearing Regarding Conveying All Real Estate Interests to the City of Adel: Motion by McAdon to open the public hearing. Motion carried. There were no written or oral comments received. Motion by McAdon to close the public hearing. Motion carried. Motion by McAdon to approve the Resolution Conveying All Real Estate Interests to the City of Adel. Motion carried.Review and Approve the Minutes of the Previous Meeting: Motion by McAdon to approve the April 9, 2026, meeting minutes. Motion carried. Review and Approve Bills: Motion by McAdon to approve the bills. Motion carried. Review and Approve Financial Reports: Motion by McAdon to approve the financial reports. Motion carried. Receive Chair's Report: McAdon reported that the Landfill is moving ahead with the dissolution of the 28E agreement that formed the SDCL; the abstract has been updated. The next step for the City is creating an ordinance to establish the Landfill as a department of the City. Receive Staff's Reports: Director: Equipment Status: Fountas reported that the excavator had an oil leak that was easily repaired since only the housing needed to be replaced. Site Status: Fountas reported that the site was in good shape. Because of the wind, the staff is working on litter control. Other: Fountas reported that the staff has been able to speed up work on the SW area. Collections: All customers are out of the 61-90+ day past due columns. Chadwick is monitoring three that are 31 days past due. Review and Approve Dozer Bids: Motion by McAdon to approve the low bid by Murphy Tractor & Equipment for the John Deere Dozer for $348,020. Motion carried. Discussion of Adair County Inquiry: McAdon noted that the expected tonnage of 5-6,000 tons/year exceeds the amount that would allow for the Landfill's desired level of conserving space. Estimated gate fees to be charged would exceed the amount in Adair County's new contract with Metro that begins July 1. At this time, it is not feasible to accept waste from Adair County. Contact will be maintained to revisit the inquiry if conditions change. Change Password: McAdon changed the password for the computers. Other business: None. The meeting was adjourned at 4:20 p.m.
