NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
BEFORE
DALLAS COUNTY
BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
Notice is hereby given that on June 9, 2026 at 10:15 am in the Board of Supervisors Meeting Room located at 800 Court Street in Adel, Iowa a hearing will be held by the Dallas County Board of Supervisors for the first reading of proposed changes to Chapter 47 of the Dallas County Code of Ordinances, Dallas County Building Code.
The following amendment to the Dallas County Zoning Code (Chapter 47) are proposed to ensure compliance with State Code.
SECTION 1. AMENDMENT. Section 47.2.5.16 of the Dallas County Code of Ordinances is hereby amended by deleting the section in its entirety and inserting the following:
“47.2.5.16. Appendix AF: Radon Control Methods per IRC 2021: Required.”
SECTION 2. REPEALER. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict with the provisions of this ordinance are hereby repealed.
SECTION 3. SEVERABILITY. If any section, provision, or part of this ordinance shall be adjudged invalid or unconstitutional by a court of competent jurisdiction, such adjudication shall not affect the validity of the ordinance as a whole or any section, provision, or part thereof not adjudged invalid or unconstitutional.
SECTION 4. EFFECTIVE DATE. This ordinance shall be in full force and effect upon its final passage, approval, and publication as provided by law.
Currently, Chapter 47 of the Dallas County Code governs local building regulations through the adoption and local amendment of the International Codes. To align with the new state law, an amendment to the currently adopted International Residential Code (IRC) section of Chapter 47 is required. This amendment will formally adopt the specific IRC provisions detailing the construction standards for passive radon control methods. Adopting these provisions ensures that all future residential building permits and subsequent inspections conducted within the County’s jurisdiction meet the minimum life safety and public health standards prescribed by the State of Iowa
AT THE ABOVE TIME AND PLACE, AN OPPORTUNITY WILL BE GIVEN PROPONENTS AND OPPONENTS OF THE ABOVE PROPOSAL TO BE HEARD.
