PUBLIC NOTICE
The U.S. Department of Commerce, Economic Development Administration (EDA) is considering a request for Federal assistance from the City of Hendersonville to construct the Wastewater Treatment Facility (WWTF) 6.0 MGD Expansion and Improvements Project in Hendersonville, Henderson County, North Carolina. Pursuant to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), EDA is conducting an assessment of the potential of the proposed project to affect the environment and/or historic properties. Notice is hereby given that the project is proposed to be located in, or may affect, a floodplain and/or wetland as defined by Executive Order (EO) 11988 and/or EO 11990.
The project consists of a series of wastewater treatment facility expansion and resiliency improvements designed to increase treatment capacity, reliability, energy efficiency, and flood resilience at the City’s existing wastewater treatment facility. Improvements include aeration basin modifications; construction of a new compressor and control building; replacement of corroded recycle activated sludge and air header piping; rehabilitation of secondary clarifiers; blower building upgrades; replacement of Tertiary Filter No. 2; replacement of electrical equipment and SCADA/ instrumentation upgrades; and associated site grading, paving, erosion control, stormwater, trenching, yard piping, and restoration. The project will expand the facility’s treatment capacity from 4.8 million gallons per day (MGD) to 6.0 MGD. The project will be located at the City of Hendersonville Wastewater Treatment Facility, 99 Balfour Road, Hendersonville, NC 28792, in Henderson County, North Carolina.
