A NOTICE OF THE SECOND FIVE-YEAR REVIEW FOR CASTNER RANGE MUNITIONS SITE 02, EL PASO TEXAS
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) is initiating the second Five-Year Review (FYR) of a Munitions Response Site (MRS) located on the Castner Range Formerly Used Defense Site (FUDS). This review includes Castner Range MRS 02 located at non-adjoining sections of the former Army encampment.
The goal of the FUDS program is to identify, monitor and clean-up former Department of Defense-leased or owned properties contaminated with hazardous materials and relinquished from Federal use prior to October 17, 1986.
The selected remedy implemented by USACE for MRS 02 is Land Use Controls in the form of an educational awareness program. Educational awareness includes development of static and portable informative products aimed at increasing public understanding of possible hazards and appropriate responses at FUDS. USACE and the Texas Commission of Environmental Quality support Educational Awareness as the selected remedy for the site. A review of the selected remedy with regard to protection of human health and the environment will be included in the FYR Report. This FYR is being conducted as a statutory requirement of the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act. The report for this FYR will be made available to the public after finalization in September 2027.
