PLANNING BOARD OF THE BOROUGH OF CARTERET, NEW JERSEY NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING AND OPPORTUNITY TO BE HEARD REGARDING CONDEMNATION AREA IN NEED OF REDEVELOPMENT INVESTIGATION
PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that on July 1, 2026, at 2:00 pm, the Borough of Carteret (the “Borough”) Planning Board (the “Planning Board”) will conduct a public hearing via video conference at the following link: https://carteret.my.webex.com/carteret.my/j.phpMTID=m93d70b32905fbe0ffe671ee01548f915
webinar number: 2553 082 4757, and password: 07008 to consider whether to recommend to the Borough Council that the properties identified as Block 6602, Lots 13, 14, and 15 on the Borough’s Tax Maps (the “Study Area”) should be designated a Condemnation Area in Need of Redevelopment in accordance with the Local Redevelopment and Housing Law, N.J.S.A. 40A:12A-1 et. seq. (the “Redevelopment Law”). This public hearing is being held pursuant to the Redevelopment Law, which authorizes municipal governing bodies to designate certain areas as being in need of redevelopment.
The Study Area is generally bounded on the North by Washington Avenue; on the West by Linden Street; on the East by Block 6602, Lots 16 and 17; and on the South by Block 6602, Lots 12 and 18.
PLEASE TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that you are privileged to be present at said public hearing to present any objections or support you may have and any other general comments relative to the Planning Board’s investigation as to whether the Study Area should be designated as an area in need of redevelopment. The resolution of the Borough Council authorizing and directing the Planning Board to undertake this investigation, the area in need of redevelopment investigation report prepared by Beacon Planning and Consulting Services, LLC, and a map depicting the boundaries of the Study Area, along with a statement setting forth the basis for the investigation are on file with the Borough Clerk and the Planning at the Memorial Municipal Building, 61 Cooke Avenue, Carteret, New Jersey 07008, and all are available for inspection during normal business hours. Please contact the Borough Clerk’s office to schedule an appointment, if and as necessary.
PLEASE TAKE FURTHER NOTICE that once the Planning Board has made its recommendation, the Borough Council will consider whether to designate the Study Area as an area in need of redevelopment by resolution pursuant to the Redevelopment Law. Such a determination shall operate as a finding of public purpose, which authorizes the municipality to exercise all powers under the Redevelopment Law, including the power of eminent domain.
