NOTICE OF LOCATION AND DESIGN APPROVAL P. I. 0015704, 0015705 CHATHAM COUNTY Notice is hereby given in compliance with Georgia Code 22-2-109 and 32-3-5 that the Georgia Department of Transportation has approved the Location and Design of this project. The date of location and design approval is: July 16, 2026 The proposed project P.I. No. 0015704, located in Chatham County, Georgia and Jasper County, South Carolina, will add a new bridge adjacent to the existing bridge on SR 404 SPUR/US 17 over the Back River into South Carolina, where the South Carolina Department of Transportation is widening US 17 to four lanes for a project length of 1.4 miles. The proposed project P.I. No. 0015705, located in Chatham County, Georgia, will begin approximately 1670 feet to the south of the northern end of the existing Talmadge Memorial Bridge and end at the southern end of the Back River Bridge. The Talmadge Bridge will be widened to accommodate new northbound exit and southbound entrance ramps from the Savannah Harbor Parkway Interchange. The roadway section between the Talmadge Bridge and the Back River Bridge will be widened to 4 lanes. The project length is 0.4 mile. The NB Entrance Ramp will be closed to traffic during construction; an offsite detour with a temporary signal at US 17 will be used during construction for 90 days. This project is located in Georgia Militia District (GMD) 8 of Chatham County, Georgia, and South Carolina Parish Saint Peter. The Georgia Department of Transportation would be responsible for acquiring property rights for this project.
