65th Wedding Anniversary Alton Wendell Yates and Gwendolyn Caroleen Yates Alton and Gwen will celebrate the 65 anniversary of their marriage on Alton's 89th birthday, August 19th. The Yates' Wedding Mass was celebrated at St. Pius V, Catholic Church, located at the corner of State and Lee Streets in Jacksonville Florida. The Mass was celebrated by the Pastor, Father Edward T. Farrell. The flower attendant was 8 year old Hazel Dean Yates, sister of the groom. The Bridsmaid was Gwen's best friend, Mary Alice King.The Best Man was Herman Grice, friend and co-worker of Alton. Alton is both, a retired Public Administrator, and retired U.S. Air Force, Lieutenant Colonel. Gwen is a retired Publuc Administrator, Founder of what is now the Youth Crisis Center, and served two terms on the Jacksonville City Council. They have two children, Alton W. Yates, II., a retired Electronics Technician with the City of Jacksonville, and LaTonya G. Yates, a News Reporter and Anchor with WABC News, New York. They have three grandchildren, Sarah Austyn Fennell, Alexis Naomi Fennell,Esq., and Gabriel Wendell Harvey. The Yates' who recently published their book entitled “Living The Legacy”, The story of Alton and Gwen Yates, will celebrate with a small gathering of Family and Friends, sharing dinner and stories of Faith, Hope and Love.
