The Grimes City Council Meeting was held in-person. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Pro Tem Eric Johansen on May 26, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. at the Grimes Community Complex, 410 SE Main Street, Grimes, Iowa. PROPOSED ACTION ITEMS Grove & Platt Site Plan Amendment Assistant Planner Hoodjer presented the details of the proposed site plan amendment at 1541 SE 3rd Street including the enclosure of the existing driveway canopy. The applicant also proposed matching the existing building's 75% masonry for the addition. Public Hearing on Ordinance 813 Amendment to Title 12 Zoning Regulations Regarding PUD Regulations Mayor Pro Tem Johansen opened the Public Hearing at 6:14 p.m. Teri Golightly, 1810 NE Heritage Drive, shared her dislike of the current buffering between residential and commercial in her PUD-designated neighborhood. Mayor Pro Tem Johansen closed the Public Hearing at 6:18 p.m. First Consideration of Ordinance 813 Amendment to Title 12 Zoning Regulations Regarding PUD Regulations Council praised staff for the work that went into the amendment and asked questions about buffering requirements for future PUD-designated developments. DISCUSSION ITEMS Staff Report Polk County Sheriff Schneider and Sergeant Lowry discussed with Council the recent electric scooter accident, what can and is being done to prevent further accidents, and provided an update on occurrences from May. City Manager Anderson recognized Public Works Director Hensley for being named a Top 10 Public Works Leader by the American Public Works Association. Mayor and City Council Reports Mayor and Council Members shared highlights from recent Fire Board and WRA Board meetings.
