CITY OF READING PUBLIC INFORMATION HEARING
The City of Reading will hold a public hearing on the proposed Lead service line replacement project for the purpose of receiving comments from interested parties.
The hearing will be held as part of the Regular City Council meeting at 6:30 PM on Tuesday, May 12, 2026 in the Reading City Council Chambers, 113 S Main St, Reading, MI 49274.
The purpose of the proposed project is to bring the City into compliance with the Michigan LCR. The City is seeking funding to help offset the cost of this project.
Project construction will involve replacement of the lead/galvanized line outside the right-of-way, from the curb stop to the first water shutoff valve or 18 inches inside the building, whichever is less. The existing lead/galvanized service line will be disconnected from the system and capped off inside the building or removed at the City's sole discretion. Property disturbed by the replacement of the water service line will be restored to the same condition as before.
Impacts of the proposed project will be minimal, involving temporary disturbance of property and disruption of water service as the line is replaced.
The estimated cost to users for the installation of the replacement of lead/galvanized line from the curb stop to the first water shutoff valve or 18 inches inside building, whichever is less, will be zero. Any additional plumbing that needs to be done beyond the first water shutoff valve or 18" inside the home will be the responsibility of the homeowner.
Copies of the plan detailing the proposed project are available for inspection by appointment at Reading City Hall or anytime on the City website.
Written comments received before the meeting record is closed on May 12, 2026 will receive responses in the final project planning document. Written comments should be sent to:
