City of Petoskey Sanitary Sewer Overflow
On Saturday, June 27, 2026, at approximately 8:00 am the City of Petoskey Department of Public Works was notified of a sanitary sewer over flow near the intersection of US 31 South and Quarry Drive. City crews stated that a failure of an air release valve was the cause of the issue. Crews were able to repair the problem around 1:30 am on Sunday, June 28, 2026. It was estimated that approximately 120,000 gallons of untreated sewage leaked on to a private, paved road. The Health Department of Northwest Michigan and Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE) have both been notified. City Crews had the impacted area cleaned up by 2:30 am Sunday June 28, 2026. The City of Petoskey is in compliance with all other aspects regarding its National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit.
