City of Petoskey Sanitary Sewer Overflow
On Thursday, July 9, 2026, at approximately 3:45pm the City of Petoskey Department of Public Works was notified of a sanitary sewer over flow near the intersection of Wachtel Avenue and West Mitchell Street. City crews stated that a blocked sanitary sewer main was the cause of the issue. Crews were able to restore flow in the sewer main by approximately 6:30pm. It was estimated that approximately 50 gallons of untreated sewage leaked on to the paved road. The Health Department of Northwest Michigan and Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE) have both been notified. City Crews had the impacted area cleaned up by 7:00pm, Thursday, July 9, 2026. The City of Petoskey is in compliance with all other aspects regarding its National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit.
