City of Van Meter Council Workshop Minutes 1. Call to Order. The Van Meter City Council met for a council workshop meeting on Monday, June 22, 2026, at the United Methodist Church located at 100 Hazel Street, Van Meter, IA 50261. Mayor Pro-Tem Brott called the meeting to order at 06:15 PM. The following council members were present upon roll call: Travis Brott, Joel Akers, Jason Barney, Joe Lake, and Jarin Young. Staff present: Police Chief Mike Brown, Interim City Administrator/City Clerk Travis Cooke and Randy Johnson, City Engineer. Mayor Herman was absent. 2. Approval of Agenda. Motion by Joe Lake to approve the Agenda. Seconded by Jarin Young. On roll call, the votes were as follows: Yeas: Travis Brott, Joel Akers, Jason Barney, Joe Lake, Jarin Young. Nays: None. Abstain: None. Motion carried 5-0-0. 3. City Engineer Project Updates. Randy Johnson, City Engineer, and council discussed the status of the water treatment plant and joining CIWW, water distribution projects, and the status of the Microsoft projects. 4. Other City Project Updates. Council discussed the status of the 601 Main project and the status of the 415 Grant building. 5. Comprehensive Plan Update. Council discussed the status of the comprehensive plan update. 6. Discuss Goals for New City Administrator. Council discussed goals for the incoming city administrator and the need for hiring a consultant to conduct a goal-setting session with council and staff. 7. Adjournment Motion by Joel Akers to adjourn the meeting. Seconded by Jarin Young. On roll call, the votes were as follows: Yeas: Travis Brott, Joel Akers, Jason Barney, Joe Lake, Jarin Young.
