EPA Adopts Record of Decision for Motorola 52nd Street Superfund Site
On September 25, 2025, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) signed a Record of Decision (ROD) that selects a remedy for groundwater cleanup at Operable Unit 3 (OU3) of the Motorola 52nd Street (M52) Superfund Site in Phoenix, Arizona.
The ROD explains that the selected remedy includes targeted in situ injection of amendments to treat groundwater in the areas with the highest concentrations of contaminants in the western part of OU3 and monitoring of the natural attenuation of contaminants in lower concentration areas. Additional measures include institutional controls and long-term monitoring to ensure cleanup goals are met. The ROD also provides responses to comments made during EPA's 45-day public comment period on the cleanup proposal that ran from November 1, 2024, through December 15, 2024.
The ROD and other information about the M52 Superfund Site are available on EPA's website at: http://epa.gov/superfund/motorola52ndst and will be available at the following site repositories by October 10, 2025: Burton Barr Public Library, 1221 N. Central Ave, Phoenix, AZ and EPA Superfund Records Center at 75 Hawthorne St., San Francisco, CA.
