Kellner Fen Invasive Woody Species Spot Treat 13 acres
NES Ecological Services has been contracted by Door County Land Trust (DCLT) to spot treat 13 acres of invasive woody species, primarily glossy buckthorn (Frangula alnus), around Kellner Fen located east of Sturgeon Bay. Work will begin in early January 2026, if weather allows, and will conclude by March 31. All woody vegetation will be treated with an aquatic approved herbicide and follow guidelines provided by DCLT and the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, in order to reduce impacts to native plants and wildlife within the property. Herbicide treatments will be conducted by cutting woody stems close to the ground and applying herbicide to the cut surface. Any request for a public meeting must be made within five days after this notice is published. The request must address the topics to be discussed at the meeting, including problems and alternatives and must be sent in writing to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, 2984 Shawano Avenue, Green Bay, WI, 54313 with attention to Claire Hetzel. This public notice is required by Chapter 107, Wisconsin Administrative Code. Comments and questions may be directed to Tina Lee, DCLT project coordinator, at tlee@doorcountylandtrust.org
