The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) will hold a public meeting on Thursday, June 25, to gather feedback on proposed alternatives for the Reconnecting Central Portland to the Riverfront project in Jefferson County. The project aims to improve connections between Louisville's Portland neighborhood and the Ohio Riverfront along the I-64 corridor, between 17th Street and 28th Street.
The open-house public meeting (no formal presentation) will take place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Good Shepherd Catholic Church (3525 Rudd Avenue, Louisville, KY 40212) on Thursday, June 25. Those interested are encouraged to attend and provide input on concepts that have been developed since the previous public meeting held in May of 2026.
Areas being evaluated as part of the project include 22nd Street from Bank Street to Northwestern Parkway, the I-64/22nd Street interchange, pedestrian bridges over I-64, and the McAlpine Locks/Lannan Park access road. Selected preferred concepts will advance to the final design phase in 2027. Construction is expected to begin in 2028, dependent on funding availability.
Information concerning Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act will be available for anyone interested in signing up for this process. Section 106 requires consideration of the possible effects that projects may have on historic properties and includes the opportunity for public review.
