Kitten, aka “Kit Kit,” or “Koshka,” passed away at approximately 3:41 p.m. Friday June 30, 2023, at Miami County Veterinary Clinic in Peru, Indiana.
In 2013, Kitten was born in Bunker Hill, Indiana. A feral orange tabby kitten with huge eyes, Kitten could often be seen following her mother around town. Tragically, her mother passed away due to suspected poisoning when Kitten was just 3 months-old.
Best friends Kalika Redman and Kaili Aikman, who were already infatuated with the little cat with the big eyes, rescued Kitten later that day from underneath a dumpster where she had been hiding.
Kitten lived her next three years in Anderson, Indiana, under the care of Gipsy Redman, Kalika’s sister, who raised the feral cat on a steady diet of World of Warcraft and Kingdom Hearts among other video games. These games would shape the way the Kitten saw herself and life.
In 2016, Kitten came to live with Amanda Redman, Gipsy and Kalika’s mom, in their childhood home, where she would live out the rest of her days.
By then, Kitten had developed into her own character that could be described as part tegu lizard, part mountain lion. Kitten had a huge spirit and would make a lot of noise when playing. She would spit, hiss and jump with her whole being.
Kitten was sometimes described as “mean” because she would readily hiss, scratch and/or bite any careless being. This subjective term was used less often as Kitten aged and became a loving member of the household, learning to trust the world and some of its people.
Part of the reason for Kitten’s “catitude” was attributed to her right eye which would often swell with pressure thought to be from glaucoma or a tumor. Later, she was diagnosed with degenerative disk disease and suffered extensive inflammation in her spine.
Kitten always loved the heat of the sun, and realistic mice toys –especially the grey wool “baby” she would carry around in her mouth while crying. She also loved cacti— so much so that ours were covered in her hair from rubbing up against them. One day, much to our horror, she even took a bite from her favorite plant, a Fairy Castle Cactus. Thankfully she was fine and seemingly unphased by the experience.
Left behind to cherish Kitten’s memory are her coparents, Amanda Redman, Gipsy Redman, and Kalika Redman, sister cats Lucie Diamond Dream, Lyra “Pete” Bigera and Diamond, and cousins Sappho Persimmon and Wasabi Marie.
Memorials may be made to Scratching Post Cat Rescue, Peru, Indiana.
