NOTICE OF THE ANNUAL SCHOOL DISTRICT MEETING,
BUDGET VOTE AND ELECTION
SAUQUOIT VALLEY CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT
SAUQUOIT, NEW YORK
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that a public hearing of the qualified voters of the Sauquoit Valley Central School District, Oneida County, Sauquoit, New York, will be held in the Library of the High School Building, 2601 Oneida Street, Sauquoit, New York on May 12, 2026 at 6:00 P.M. prevailing time, for the presentation of the budget.
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that the annual meeting of the qualified voters of the Sauquoit Valley Central School District will be held in the lobby of the High School Auditorium on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 between the hours of 7:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. prevailing time at which time the polls will be open to vote by voting machine upon the following items:
To adopt the annual budget of the School District for the fiscal year 2026-2027 and to authorize the requisite portion thereof to be raised by taxation on the taxable property of the District.
To elect two (2) members of the Board of Education for a three (3) year term commencing July 1, 2026 and expiring on June 30, 2029.
AND NOTICE IS ALSO GIVEN that the following propositions will be submitted for voter approval at such time:
PROPOSITION #1
Shall the following resolution be adopted to wit:
RESOLVED that the Board of Education of the Sauquoit Valley Central School District is hereby authorized to undertake the acquisition of three (3) diesel school buses, at an estimated maximum aggregate cost of $530,000, less trade-in value, if any, and that such costs, or so much thereof as may be necessary, shall be raised by the levy of a tax to be collected in annual installments; and, in anticipation of such tax, debt obligations of the school district as may be necessary not to exceed $530,000 shall be issued, or the school district may enter into an installment purchase contract if the Board of Education determines that it is in the best interest of the school district to finance the purchase in that method.
AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that a copy of the statement of the amount of money which will be required to fund the School District's budget for 2026-27, exclusive of public monies, may be obtained by any resident of the District during business hours beginning Tuesday, May 5, 2026 at the Sauquoit Valley Central School Business Office.
AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that petitions nominating candidates for the office of member of the Board of Education shall be filed in the office of the Clerk of the School District between the hours of 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M., no later than April 20, 2026. Each petition shall be directed to the Clerk of the District and shall be signed by at least 25 voters of the District, shall state the residence of each signer, and must state the name and residence of the candidate. Petitions may be obtained in the District Office.
AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that applications for absentee ballots will be obtainable between the hours of 8:00 A.M. and 4:00 P.M. Monday through Friday, except holidays, from the District Clerk. Absentee ballots may be requested by letter received by the clerk not earlier than April 20, 2026 nor later than May 12, 2026. Completed applications must be received by the District Clerk at least seven (7) days before the election if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter, or the day before the election, if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter. Absentee ballots must be received by the District Clerk not later than 5:00 P.M. prevailing time on Tuesday, May 19, 2026.
A list of persons to whom absentee ballots are issued will be available for inspection to qualified voters of the District in the office of the District Clerk on and after May 12, 2026 between the hours of 8:00 A.M. and 4:00 P.M. on weekdays prior to the day set for the annual election, and said list will be posted at the polling place at the election. Any qualified voter present in the polling place may object to the voting of the ballot upon appropriate grounds for making his/her challenge and the reasons therefore known to the Inspector of Election before the close of the polls.
AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that early mail ballots may be applied for at the office of the District Clerk. A list of all persons to whom early mail ballots shall have been issued will be available in the office of the District Clerk on each of the five days prior to the day of the vote except Sundays, and such list will also be posted at the polling place or places for the vote.
AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, is hereby given that military voters who are qualified voters of the School District may apply for a military ballot by requesting an application from the District Clerk at 315-839-6311 or via email to mgoodman@svcsd.org]. For a military voter to be issued a military ballot, the District Clerk must have received a valid ballot application no later than 5:00 pm on April 24, 2026. In a request for a military ballot application or ballot, the military voter may indicate their preference for receiving the application or ballot by mail, facsimile transmission or electronic mail.
AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that the qualified voters of the School District shall be entitled to vote at said annual vote and election. A qualified voter is one who is (1) a citizen of the United States of America, (2) eighteen years of age or older, and (3) resident within the School District for a period of thirty (30) days preceding the annual vote and election. The School district may require all persons offering to vote at the budget vote and election to provide one form of proof of residency pursuant to Education Law §2018-c. Such form may include a driver's license, a non-driver identification card, a utility bill, or a voter registration card. Upon offer of proof of residency, the School District also requires all persons offering to vote to provide their signature, and printed address.
