Notice of Public Hearing
A public hearing is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. on July 27, 2026 at the Macatawa Area Express (MAX) Transit Authority Operations facility, located at 11660 Greenway Drive, Holland, MI.
Macatawa Area Express Transportation Authority (MAX Transit) hereby provides notice of proposed changes to its fixed-route and Demand Response (Reserve-A-MAX) transit services. The proposed changes are based on recommendations identified through a comprehensive transit study conducted to evaluate current services and future transportation needs within the community.
In addition, MAX Transit will consider proposed fare adjustments for fixed-route and Demand Response services.
Proposed Changes to Fixed Route and Demand Response Service
Optimize service by reducing MAX's fixed routes from eight to six while maintaining reliable coverage.
Improve midday service with buses running every 30 minutes from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Establish new fixed-route service hours from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. to better align resources with ridership demand.
Demand Response services will operate from 5:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
More cross-town routes.
Downtown Connector – links downtown businesses with seamless transfers to other fixed-route buses every 30 minutes.
Eliminate routes connecting at the Holland Transportation Center (depot) offering connection points in the community.
Night Owl service will operate from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
Proposed Changes to the Fixed Route and Reserve-A-MAX Fare Structure - see below. No charge for transfers if trip is taken within one hour of original trip.
Proposed Changes to Fixed Route and Demand Response Fares
Fixed Route Fares
Full fare passengers: currently $1.15 per trip. Proposed change $1.25 per trip.
ADA, Senior Passengers (65+ yrs), and Students: $.50 per trip. (No change to current fare).
Reserve-A-MAX
Full fare passengers: $5.50 per trip (No change to current fare).
ADA, Seniors (65 yrs+) & Students: currently $2.30 per trip. Proposed change $2.50 per trip.
MAX encourages comments to understand the impact of service changes to our community.
