NOTICE OF AVAILABILITY AND INTENT TO ADOPT A MITIGATED NEGATIVE DECLARATION BY THE SHASTA COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that Shasta County has prepared an Initial Study and proposed Mitigated Negative Declaration (IS/MND) pursuant to the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) for the project described herein. Based on preliminary analysis, the Shasta County Board of Supervisors will consider adopting the MND at their regularly scheduled meeting of Tuesday, February 24, 2026, with the session commencing at 9:00 AM, or as soon thereafter as possible, at the Board of Supervisors' Chambers located at 1450 Court Street, Room 263, Redding, California.
Project Applicant: Shasta County
Project Title: Parkville Road at Ash Creek Bridge Replacement Project
Project Location: The Project is located in south central Shasta County, approximately 5 miles east of the City of Anderson, California, and approximately 1 mile north of the intersection of Parkville Road and Ash Creek Road. The Project site is within the Balls Ferry, California 7.5-minute U.S. Geological Survey quadrangle, Township 30 North, Range 3 West, Section 22, Mount Diablo Base & Meridian. The Project location is shown in Figure 1. Project Vicinity and Figure 2. Project Location of the Initial Study.
Project Description: The Shasta County Department of Public Works proposes to replace the existing bridge on Parkville Road over Ash Creek and construct the necessary roadway approach improvement. The Parkville Road bridge is functionally obsolete and presents a public safety hazard with insufficient width for current traffic volumes, a timber railing that does not meet current safety standards, and lack of approach guardrails. The County proposes to create a new bridge crossing slightly downstream of the existing bridge, including construction of new roadway approaches. The new bridge would be a single-span, 102-foot-long by 27.50-foot-wide, reinforced concrete CIP post-tensioned box girder. The new structure would be installed on a new alignment to the south of the existing structure. The County also plans to realign the roadway approaches on both sides of the bridge and widen the approaches from 16 to 22 feet to align with the new bridge. Approximately 300 feet of approach road work on each side of the bridge would be required to tie into the existing alignment. Parkville Road would remain open to traffic during construction. The existing bridge and roadway would remain open for use as a temporary detour and would be removed once the new bridge and roadway open to traffic.
