Notice of Application Review
The State of South Dakota has submitted an application to the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance, for Federal Fiscal Year 2025 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) funding.
South Dakota has requested $1,037,447 in FY 2025 Byrne JAG funding.
The FY 2025 Byrne JAG application will fund programs to assist state and local efforts to prevent or reduce crime and violence. JAG funds support all components of the criminal justice system and JAG funded projects may address crime through the provision of services directly to individuals and/or communities by improving the effectiveness and efficiency of criminal justice systems, processes and procedures.
The priorities for funding are:
Provide resources needed to address drug crimes, organized criminal activity, cybersecurity crimes and threats, and other violent crimes facing law enforcement and their communities in the state.Provide resources to prosecute those who commit these crimes.
Funds will be used to support our cities, counties and tribal law enforcement agencies as they provide public safety to South Dakota. Local and tribal agencies will have the opportunity to request funding through a competitive process, to enhance their resources and support their public safety initiatives for their communities.

Public comments will be accepted through August 15, 2026.
All comments received during the public comment period will be reviewed and considered prior to finalizing the FY 2025 Byrne JAG award from the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance.
