Notice of Pending Application for Proposed Water Ski Platform or Jump (Lake Wausau Waterski Jump)
Joe Nagrant, PO Box 245, Mosinee, WI 54455 has applied to the Department of Natural Resources for a permit for a Water Ski Platform or Jump. The project is located on Lake Wausau in SW 1/4, NE 1/4, Section 11, Township 28 North, Range 07 East, Village of Rib Mountain, Marathon County.
The Central WI Water Ski Show Team (Water Walkers) proposes the seasonal installation and maintenance of a regulation-size floating water ski jump on Lake Wausau for summer training and public performances. The aluminum-framed jump with High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) surface will be anchored using four concrete block anchors connected by chains and synthetic ropes. The structure will be installed each spring (May) and removed each fall (October), with anchors remaining in place and retrieval lines secured to a buoy or shoreline. The project supports local recreation by providing a safe, permitted facility for water ski shows. Construction is planned for winter 2026–2027, with initial installation in spring 2027.
The Department will review the proposal provided by the applicant and any information from public comments and the public informational hearing. The Department will determine whether the proposal complies with ss. 1.11, 30.61, and 30.74 Wis. Stats., and Ch NR 150 and 5.09 Wis. Admin. Code.
The Department has made a tentative determination that it will modify the permit for the proposed activity.
