Notification of Environmental Investigation and CleanupPSEG POLE 66397 - 232 PLEASANT VALLEY WAY; NJDEP PI #1134104232 Pleasant Valley Way, West Orange (Block 151/ Lot 29)
In accordance with New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) regulations for "Notification and Public Outreach", Public Service Electric & Gas (PSE&G) is required to provide information relating to environmental conditions and remedial activities being conducted at the above referenced site.
A pole-mounted transformer at the rear of a commercial nursery at the above-reference site, was damaged due to a storm, resulting in a spill of dielectric fluid to soil and surface water at the site. Compounds associated with dielectric fluid, such as extractable petroleum hydrocarbons, polychlorinated biphenyls, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons were initially detected in soil at the site in 2026. PSE&G has since identified that dielectric fluid in surface water has migrated off-site. Immediate response actions were implemented, including deployment of booms and absorbent pads to contain and recover observed oil. The extent of impacts has been determined, and remediation activities are ongoing.
PSEG is conducting investigative and remedial activities in accordance with NJDEP requirements to address the detected compounds and dielectric fluid. In addition, an evaluation of receptors in the area is being conducted to ensure that the remedial approach is appropriate for the site.
