Opportunity to Object on the Klamath and Shasta-Trinity National Forests Prescribed Fire Project, USDA Forest Service Klamath and Shasta-Trinity National Forests
An Environmental Assessment (EA) and draft Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) is selects the proposed action and is available for public review. The EA encompasses all national forest system lands on both forests, except the Ukonom Ranger District, which is managed by the Six Rivers National Forest. The EA is programmatic, meaning subsequent National Environmental Policy Act analysis and other regulatory compliance will be completed prior to implementation. How to Object
This draft FONSI is subject to objection pursuant to 36 CFR 218, Subparts A and B. Objections will only be accepted from those who submitted project-specific written comments during scoping or comment period. Issues raised in objections must be based on previously submitted comments unless based on new information arising after the designated comment opportunities [36 CFR 218.8(c)].
Objections must be submitted within 45 days following the publication of this legal notice. The date of this legal notice is the exclusive means for calculating the time to file an objection. Those wishing to object should not rely upon dates or timeframes provided by any other source. It is the objector's responsibility to ensure evidence of timely receipt (36 CFR 218.9).
Electronic comments must be submitted in a common digital format such as an email message, plain text (.txt), rich text format (.rtf), or Word (.doc, .docx) to sm.fs.ca.klamathnf.projects@usda.gov with "KSTFire" in the subject line of the email. Written comments may also be submitted by postal mail to: USDA Forest Service, Regional Forester, 1323 Club Drive, Vallejo, CA 94592, Attn: KSTRX Project. The office business hours for those submitting hand-delivered comments are: 8:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. For objection eligibility, each individual or representative from each entity submitting timely and specific written comments regarding the EA must either sign the comments or verify identity upon request §218.24(b)(8). Comments received in response to this initial request, including names, addresses, and any other information provided with the comments, will be considered a part of the public record and will be subject to the Freedom of Information Act and released if requested. In cases where no identifiable name is attached to a comment, a verification of identity will be required for objection eligibility.
Objections must include (36 CFR 218.8(d)): 1) Objector's name and address, with a telephone number, if available; 2) Signature or other verification of authorship upon request; 3) When multiple names are listed on an objection, identification of the lead objector; 4) The name of the proposed project, name and title of the responsible official, and name(s) of the affected national forest(s) and/or ranger district(s); 5) A description of those aspects of the proposed project addressed by the objection, including specific issues related to the proposed project; if applicable, how the objector believes the environmental analysis or draft decision specifically violates law, regulation, or policy; suggested remedies that would resolve the objection; supporting reasons for the reviewing officer to consider; and, 6) A statement that demonstrates the connection between prior specific written comments and the content of the objection.
