PUBLIC NOTICE OF STORM WATER DISCHARGE
Central Iowa Water Trails plans to submit a Notice of Intent to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources to be covered under the NPDES General Permit No. 2 "Storm Water Discharge Associated with Industrial Activity for Construction Activities". The stormwater discharge will be from site grading associated with the construction of site and accessibility improvements at Birdland Marina, south of Birdland Drive and west of Saylor Road in Des Moines. Soil disturbing activities will include the following: perimeter and other erosion and sediment controls, removal of depleted concrete walk and retaining walls, excavation, site grading, water quality improvements, installation of accessibility improvements, parking lot reconstruction, trail extensions, placement of rocks for riverbank stabilization, and preparation for final planting and seeding. located in City limits of Des Moines, Iowa and more specifically within Section 35, T-79-N, R-24-W, Polk County, Iowa
Runoff is currently conveyed via a combination of overland flow as well as private and City storm sewer systems which ultimately drains to the Des Moines River. The proposed project will construct two new water quality basins. The existing drainage conditions will be improved with the installation of new storm sewer, and runoff will be directed to the new water quality basins within the project area. Storm water will be discharged from 2 point source(s) and will be discharged to the following streams: Des Moines River.
Comments may be submitted to the Storm Water Discharge Coordinator, Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Environmental Protection Division, 502 E. 9th Street, Des Moines, IA 50319-0034. The public may review the Notice of Intent from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, at the above address after it has been received by the department.
