Partially Treated Sewage Overflow Notice
from Holland Board of Public Works
A discharge of an estimated 50 gallons of partially treated wastewater occurred to the Macatawa River on the east boundary of the Holland Area Water Reclamation Facility located at 42 S River Ave, Holland. On Sunday, June 21, 2026, a tank at the Water Reclamation Facility overflowed during a fill cycle causing foam and wastewater solids to collect on a building rooftop. Approximately 50 gallons ran down a roof drain leading to the Macatawa River. The discharge was noticed within 15 minutes of starting and the tank level was lowered to stop the overflow. An environmental cleanup crew was mobilized the same day to clean up the roof, roof drain and any partially treated wastewater that was discharged. The Ottawa County Department of Public Health and the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy have been notified of the discharge.
