Public Notice - Des. No. 2201630 Hancock County is planning to undertake a roadway improvement project funded in part by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). The project is located on S CR 600 W from W CR 600 S to W Stinemyer Road in Hancock and Shelby Counties, Indiana. Under the preferred alternative, the proposed project would involve the construction of a single-lane roundabout at the intersection of South CR 600 W and W Stinemyer Road. Additionally, South CR 600 W is anticipated to be widened to two 12-ft lanes (one northbound and one southbound) with 4-ft wide shoulders (2-ft paved and 2-ft earth/gravel). The existing roadway alignment of South CR 600 W is anticipated to be shifted east, away from Little Sugar Creek. The existing structure which conveys Sugar Run beneath South CR 600 W is anticipated to be replaced. New lighting will also be added at the proposed roundabout. Right-of-way (ROW) acquisition is anticipated as part of the proposed project. It is anticipated that the project would require approximately 4.86 acres of permanent ROW and an additional 0.56 acre of temporary ROW. No relocations are anticipated as part of this undertaking. Properties listed in or eligible for the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) located within the Area of Potential Effects (APE) include the Hack Farmstead, located at 6125 W Stinemyer Road. The proposed action impacts properties listed in or eligible for the NRHP. The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT), on behalf of the FHWA, has issued a "No Adverse Effect" finding for the project because the project will not diminish the integrity of the characteristics that qualify the historic properties within the APE for inclusion in the NRHP. In accordance with the National Historic Preservation Act, the views of the public are being sought regarding the effect of the proposed project on the historic elements as per 36 CFR 800.2(d), 800.3(e) and 800.6(a)(4). Pursuant to 36 CFR 800.4(d)(2), the documentation specified in 36 CFR 800.11(e) can be viewed electronically by accessing INDOT's Section 106 document posting website IN SCOPE at http://erms12c.indot.in.gov/Section106Documents. This documentation serves as the basis for the "No Adverse Effect" finding. The views of the public on this effect finding are being sought.
