Public Notice
Pursuant to the "Surface Mining Conservation and Reclamation Act" and the "Clean Streams Law" notice is hereby given that Summit Anthracite LLC, 175 Drift Road, Tinton Falls, NJ, 07724 has made application to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) for a permit to conduct surface non-coal mining activities in Archbald Borough, Lackawanna County.  One variance is requested in the permit application.  The variance is to disturb within 100 feet, but no closer than fifty feet of Indian Cave Creek, Spruce Swamp Creek, and White Oak Run, and their tributaries.  The center of the proposed permit area of 733 acres is located 1.5 inches north and 1.0 inches west of the lower right-hand corner of the Carbondale U.S. Geologic Survey 7.5 minute topographic map.  This proposed permit area's receiving streams are Indian Cave Creek, Spruce Swamp Creek, White Oak Run, and their unnamed tributaries.  The Carbondale, Olyphant & Waymart,  PA, U.S. Geologic Survey 7.5 minute topographic maps contain the area described.  A copy of the application has been delivered for public inspection to the Lackawanna County Conservation District, 1038 Montdale Rd, Scott, PA 18447.   Written comments, objections, or a request for public hearing or informal conference may be submitted to the Department of Environmental Protection, Pottsville District Office, 5 West Laurel Boulevard, Pottsville, PA 17901 by December 29, 2025 and must include the person's name, address, telephone number, and a brief statement as to the nature of the objection(s).
