Public Notice
Pursuant to the SURFACE MINING CONSERVATION and RECLAMATION ACT as amended, the PENNSYLVANIA DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION Rules and Regulations and the PENNSYLVANIA CLEAN STREAMS LAW, notice is hereby given that Rosebud Mining Company, 301 Market Street, Kittanning, PA 16201 has made application to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection to renew its existing surface coal mine for reclamation only with post-mining water treatment (SMP No. 56900112) and renew the related NPDES permit (PA0598976). The current permit, known as the Nittany Mine was issued on June 27, 1991 and will expire on June 27, 2026. This renewal does not contain revisions to the existing operation.
This operation contains 650 acres in Summit Township, Somerset County and is located at 1390 Rockdale Road, Rockwood, PA 15557. The receiving stream is Stony Batter Run and the area is located on the Markleton, Meyersdale, Murdock and Rockwood, PA 7 ½ minute USGS quadrangle maps.
A copy of the application is available for public inspection at the PA Department of Environmental Protection, Cambria District Office, 286 Industrial Park Road, Ebensburg, PA 15931. Written comments, objections, or a request for public hearing or informal conference may be submitted to the Department of Environmental Protection, Cambria District Office, 286 Industrial Park Road, Ebensburg, PA 15931 within 30 days from the date of the final (4th) publication of this notice and must include the person's name, address, telephone number, and a brief statement as to the nature of the objection(s).
