IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR DRINKING WATER
Shady Oaks Mobile Home Park Failed to Take Corrective Action Following Identification of a
Significant Deficiency
On November 17, 2022 the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) performed a dctailed inspecti on
and -engineering cvaluation of our water systent- callod a sanitary survcy. During this saniary
survcy, they identified one or more signi ficant deficiencics in our system. As our customers, you
have a right to know what happened and what we are doing to correct this situation. According to
EPA's Ground Water Rulc, we werc required to correct the deficiency (or deficicncics) or work
with the State to develop a plan to correct the deficiency (or deficiencies). However, we failed to
orrect the deficiency or contact the State before the established deadline and have therefore
violateđ a requirement of the Uround Water Rulc
What should I do?
There is nothing you need to do. You do not need to boil your water or take other corrective actions
If a situation arises where the water is no longer safe to drink, you will be notified within 24 hours
What does this mean?
This is not an emergency. If it had been an emergency. you would have been notified within 24
hours.
This significant deficiency has the potential to result in lack of proper treatment and oversight of
the water system. Inadequately treated or inadequately protected water may contain disease-causing
organisms. These organisms can cause symptoms such as diarrhea, nausea, cramps, and associated
headaches. While we have not detected any evidence of contamination or other health threats
related to our source water, we are still committed to correcting the deficiency to eliminate the
threat of contamination.
What was done?
1. The Pressure Tank used to store the drinking water for the park had significant corrosion on the
outside of the tank. The tank was properly sanded, and refinished to LDH satisfaction
2. Thè wiring that feeds the water pump from the electrical control box was not in proper protectivc
conduit. The proper conduit was installed between the electrical box and the pump head so the
wires are no longer exposed
3. The chemical drum that holds the bleach that feeds into the system for disinfection did not have a
proper overflow drum in case of a spill or leak. There was a sccondary containment drum
installed to meet LDH requirements.
4. There was not a generator on standby for the wellsite as required from LDH, there was a new
generator installed, with a swap over breaker to make a quick swap to ensure there is no loss of
pressure in the event of a power outage/ storm event.
5. There was not a smooth tap faucet on the Point of Entry at the entrance of the tank as required by
LDH. A smooth tap faucet was installed as required
6, Any other defeciencies, even if not ""SIGNIFICANT" were fixed and/or repaired and everything
is currently in compliance according to LDH requirements

Public Notice #2
Shady Oaks Moble Home Park Water System is currently in violation of the treatment technique
requirements for minimum residual disinfectant level as set forth by the State Part XII of the
Louisiana State Sanitary Code. Although this incident is not an emergency, as our customers, you
have a right to know what happened and what we are doing to correct this situation
-'The Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) has determined that the presence of microbiological
contaminants is a health concern at certain levels of exposure and rcquires the disinfection of
drinking water to kill disease-causing organisms. Inadequately treated water may contain disease
causing oganisms. These organisms include bacteria, viruses, and parasites which can cause
symptoms such as nausea, cramps, diarrhea, and associated headaches. These symptoms, however
are not just associated with disease-causing organisms in drinking water, but also may be caused by
number of factors other than your drinking water. LDH has set enforceable recquircments for
treating drinking water to reduce the risk of these adverse health effects. Treatment such as filtering
and disinfecting the water removes and destroys microbiological contaminants. Drinking water
which is treated to meet LDH requirements is associated with little to none of this risk and should
be considered safe.
-We are required to monitor your water for the residual disinfectant level. This tells us whether we
are effectively treating the water supply. During the compliance monitoring periods of (9/1/2022)
through (9/30/2022), and (10/1/2022) through (10/31/2022); (11/1/2022) through
(11/30/2022), Shady Oaks Mobile Home Park Water System failed to provide the minimum
residual disinfectant level in the treated water supplied to customers. The violation occurred because
the treated water chIorine residual was Iess than 0.5 milligrams per liter in over five percent of the
samples collected in the water system in two consecutive months,
-You do not need to boil your water or take other corrective actions. However, if you have
specific health concems, consult your doctor.
-Please share this information with all the other people who drink this water, especially those who
may not have received this notice directly (for example, people in apartments, nursing homes,
