Robert and Alice Sauer celebrate 70 years of marriage
Robert Sauer of Port Washington and Alice Grob of Grafton were married on June 16, 1956, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, in Grafton. They have nine children: Susan Sauer (deceased), Jean Sauer of Racine, Nancy (Bryan) Garness of Merton, Sharon McQueen (Richard Douglas) of Norfolk, VA, Ann Sauer of Grafton, David (Nunnapatch) of Grafton, Teresa (Tim) Klumb of Grafton, Karen Nest of Oak Creek, and Brian Sauer of Grafton. They have five grandchildren: Nicole (Aaron), Steven, Jacob, Mae, and Terapong. And three great-grandchildren: Theodore, Charlie, and Allison.
In addition to raising eight children, Alice and Bob owned and operated the Cedarburg Dairy Queen for 30 years, until 1994. Alice managed the day-to-day business of the Dairy Queen, and Bob maintained the machinery while also working at Ted Grob Corporation until retiring in 2000.
Being a talented carpenter, Bob did much of the work on their home when it was built. He can still be found in his workshop designing and creating the most wonderful woodwork projects for family and friends. Alice has a hand in it, too, often helping with painting, staining, and varnishing. She created many wonderful crafts and paintings over the years. However, in summer, she spends as much time as possible in the pool. Together, Bob and Alice enjoy Yahtzee and jigsaw puzzles, many of them extremely difficult.
Last December, Bob and Alice celebrated their 90th birthdays together by going out to eat with their extended family. Being very loving and giving people, Bob and Alice continue to volunteer their time whenever possible. Having a very active lifestyle, much of their time and energy is devoted to their loved ones by visiting their children and attending various school activities, sporting events, and performances.
Robert and Alice’s children congratulate them on 70 wonderful years of marriage and want them to know that they are greatly loved. They also wish to thank their parents for the continuous love, guidance, and support they have been given throughout the years.
