SUMMARY OF ORDINANCE
At its regular meeting of July 14, 2026, the Board of Supervisors of the County of Shasta, will consider enacting the following ordinances:
AN ORDINANCE OF THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
OF THE COUNTY OF SHASTA
ADDING LIMITATIONS ON THE EXERCISE
OF EMINENT DOMAIN
TO THE SHASTA COUNTY CHARTER
In summary, the proposed ordinance would amend the Shasta County Charter restricting the County's authority to exercise eminent domain to acquire property from any private owner, without such owner's consent, when the purpose of the acquisition is to convey the property acquired to any private party.

ADDING PROVISIONS FOR FILLING
ELECTED DEPARTMENT HEAD POSITIONS
IN THE EVENT OF A VACANCY
TO THE SHASTA COUNTY CHARTER
In summary, the proposed ordinance would amend the Shasta County Charter to require that, whenever a vacancy occurs for a Shasta County Elected Department Head Position, the Board direct staff to fill the Vacancy by calling for an election, and consolidating it with the next regularly scheduled election, so long as that election occurs within 12 months of the vacancy. Should the next regularly scheduled election not occur within 12 months of the vacancy the Board shall, by a 4/5 vote, fill the Vacancy by appointment via open recruitment.
The proposed ordinances shall take effect upon certification of the November 3, 2026, election results, provided the measures are approved by a majority of the electors voting on the measures. The ordinances shall become operative on January 1, 2027.
