SR 227 Small Structures Improvement Project DES. # 2200507
LEGAL NOTICE OF PLANNED IMPROVEMENT
The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) is developing plans for proposed State Road (SR) 227 Small Structures Improvement Project, 4.60 miles north of SR 121 to approximately 7.86 miles north of SR 121, in Wayne County, Indiana, with a total work length of 3.24 miles (DES 2200507). Nineteen small structures will be replaced, and ditch work will be completed along this section of SR 227. Linear grading will occur to tie in existing roadside ditches along SR 227 and riprap will be placed at small structure ends for scour protection. Small Structure replacement and drainage corrections will require between 1 to 10.5-foot depth of excavation.
The maintenance of traffic (MOT) plan proposes phased construction partially closing sections of SR 227 during small structure work. Phased closures will begin at the southern terminus of the project area and move north along the roadway. An official state route detour utilizing I-70, US 27, and US 36 will be used during construction. Local roads may be used by local traffic. Access to all properties will be maintained throughout construction. School corporations and emergency services will be notified of closures prior to construction. The proposed timing of construction is from Spring 2027 to 2029.
Construction of the project will require approximately 3.526 acres of permanent right-of-way (ROW), of which 1.290 acres will be new permanent ROW and 2.236 acres will be reacquisition of the apparent existing ROW. Approximately 0.052 acre of temporary ROW will be required for site access. No relocations are required. The cost associated with this project is approximately $4,250,800 which includes preliminary engineering, ROW, and construction with both federal and state funds anticipated to be used.
The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and INDOT have agreed this project falls within the guidelines of a Categorical Exclusion (CE) Level 2 environmental document.
Preliminary design plans along with the CE are available for review at the following locations:
