The Garfield Board of Education announces a vacancy The Garfield Board of Education announces a vacancy for a Board position effective October 28, 2025. The individual selected will serve as a member of the Board of Education from the date of appointment through the 2026 Board Re-Organization meeting in May. The position will stand for election on April 21, 2026. Interested candidates (1) must be a citizen of the United States; (2) must be a resident of the Garfield Public School District and have been a resident of the Garfield Public School District for at least one year preceding appointment; (3) must be able to read and write; (4) must be registered to vote in the Garfield Public School District and not disqualified from voting pursuant to N.J.S.A. 19:4-1; (5) must not have been convicted of a crime or offense listed in N.J.S.A. 18A:12-1; (6) may not concurrently hold office as mayor or a member of the governing body of Garfield; (7) must pass a criminal background check within thirty (30) days of appointment; and (8) any and all other requirements required by law.
