The New Hampshire Coastal Program (NHCP) is reviewing the following activities for consistency with its enforceable policies:
The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) is proposing to implement recent binding recommendations of the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas on quotas for North Atlantic swordfish, South Atlantic swordfish, North Atlantic albacore tuna, and Atlantic bluefin tuna.
The New England Fishery Management Council and the Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council, in consultation with NMFS, have prepared a 2025 Essential Fish Habitat (EFH) designations framework adjustment, and an Omnibus Habitat Amendment, respectively. Through these actions, the Councils developed revised EFH designations for a subset of their managed species. There are no anticipated negative effects from these actions because they are administrative in nature.
The University of New Hampshire, with funding from the Office of Naval Research, is proposing research in the Piscataqua River to characterize temporal and spatial complexities of the ambient sound field in coastal habitats to enhance the understanding of limitations on passive sensing capabilities for sound localization and port protection applications.
The deadline for written comments on the above proposals is June 19, 2026. For additional information please visit the NHCP web site at https://www.des.nh.gov/public-comment-opportunities?category=Coastal, or contact Christian Williams at (603) 559-0025 or christian.p.williams@des.nh.gov.
