Environmental Cleanup Program Five-Year Review Begins
In accordance with the requirements of the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) Section 121(c), The United States Air Force, in coordination with the Environmental Protection Agency and the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality (ODEQ), is conducting the seventh Five-Year Review (FYR) at Tinker Air Force Base (AFB) for environmental Remediation Actions (RAs) at Environmental Restoration Program (ERP) Sites OT001 (Building 3001, Operable Unit (OU)-1) and ST003 (North Tank Area sub-OU-1). The source areas at OT001 are being treated by a combination of soil vapor extraction wells and in-situ chemical oxidation in groundwater. Site ST003 achieved Response Complete in 2015 and is now in the Long-Term Monitoring (LTM) with Land Use Controls (LUCs) phase. Dissolved-phase contaminants remaining in the groundwater are being monitored and addressed by the OT001 groundwater RAs.
The purpose of this FYR is to ensure that the remedy is functioning as intended and continues to be protective of human health and the environment. A summary of remediation activities and an evaluation of the protectiveness of the implemented remedies will be included in the FYR report. The review includes inspection of the site and cleanup technologies; review of monitoring, performance, and maintenance records; and evaluation of any new relevant regulatory requirements that have been established since the cleanup decision was finalized.
This publication provides notice and invites any interested persons to provide written comments and/or to schedule an interview to provide comments. The FYR will consider all written comments received during this public comment period ending March 17th, 2026.
