Public Notice - Project Summary and Environmental Review
To Village of Viola Residents:
The Village of Viola is in the process of securing funding for a Water System Improvements Project consisting of four phases. The Village's proposed Water System Improvement Project is to replace the 4-inch main throughout the Village of Viola – starting with the problematic areas of the system first. The project is broken down into four phases to align with the Village's finances. Phase 1 includes replacing 5,025-ft of 4-in water main with 6-in and 8-in mains in the southwest quadrant of the Village. Phase 2 focuses on the northwest side of the Village. Phases 3 and 4 focus on replacing the remainder of 4 inch water mains throughout the Village.
Prior to granting its approval of the proposed project and plan, the IEPA requires that the public be granted an opportunity to comment on the information presented. The Village of Viola is hereby making notice that a public hearing for the proposed Water System Improvements Projects will be held on February 2, 2026, at 5:30 p.m. at the Village Hall located at 1305 17th Ave, Viola, Illinois 61486.
Additionally, after the public hearing, a 10-day public comment period will commence on February 3, 2026, and end on February 13, 2026. Information on the proposed project and the IEPA Project Summary and Notice are available for public inspection at Village Hall located at 1305 17th Ave, Viola, Illinois by appointment Monday- Friday. During this public comment period, written comments may be provided to the Village of Viola or directly to the IEPA contact person, which is Ellen Jordal, Illinois Environmental Protection Agency, Infrastructure Financial Assistance Section, Bureau of Water, 2520 W. Iles Ave, PO Box 19276, Springfield, Illinois 62794-9276.
