Wellspring Church Launches “The Encounter Project” to Expand Space for the Coachella Valley

Coachella Valley, CA — May 20, 2026— Wellspring Church, formerly Southwest Church. has officially announced the launch of The Encounter Project, a multi-phase capital improvement project designed to expand its campus and create new environments where the entire Valley can experience connection, community, and the hope of Jesus. For more than 50 years, Wellspring Church has served the Coachella Valley with a commitment to discipleship, outreach, and helping people build their lives on the Gospel. As attendance continues to grow and engagement across the church increases, leaders say the need for expanded space has become urgent—not just because of growth, but to better serve the needs of families and the community. Ricky Jenkins, senior pastor of Wellspring Church, said, “The Encounter Project is about making room for the family searching for connection, for the single parent who needs a safe place for their kids to play and grow, for the next generation looking for purpose, and for every person who simply wants a place to belong. It’s also about creating more opportunities for people to encounter Jesus seven days a week.” The project outlines plans to develop Wellspring’s 43-acre campus to support both worship and community use throughout the week. Planned improvements include: - Sports Complex: Outdoor athletic fields and recreational amenities such as soccer fields, pickleball courts and walking trails - Community Spaces: Gathering areas for families, including a large indoor playground and café - Sanctuary: A new, expanded sanctuary designed to accommodate growth and serve as a hub for worship services and programs. Church leaders note that the project is intended to support more than weekend services. The goal is to create additional space for people across the Coachella Valley to gather, connect, and access resources throughout the week.
